Florida homeowners searching for a "2026 Florida window renewal program" or a "window replacement program" are usually looking for one real program: My Safe Florida Home, the state hurricane mitigation grant. Several other incentives people mention, like the federal window tax credit and the Florida sales tax break on impact windows, have ended. This guide separates what is available in 2026 from what is not, so you can plan an impact window project in Brevard County with accurate numbers. For pricing before incentives, see our impact window cost guide for Melbourne, FL.
Is There a 2026 Florida Window Renewal or Window Replacement Program?
We could not find any official Florida program named a "window renewal" or "window replacement" program. The state program that pays toward impact windows is My Safe Florida Home (MSFH), which runs at mysafeflhome.com. Its own site lists "Window Upgrades" and "Exterior Door Upgrades (including Garage Doors)" alongside roof improvements as eligible projects, with grants of up to $10,000. Be cautious with ads that use program-sounding names: a contractor cannot enroll you in a state grant, and MSFH grants are approved by the program, not by the installer.
My Safe Florida Home in 2026: How the Grant Works
MSFH is a two-step program. First you apply for a free hurricane mitigation (wind mitigation) inspection through the program. The inspection report lists which upgrades your home qualifies for. Then, if grant funding is available, you apply for a grant toward those recommended improvements.
Grant eligibility (from the official MSFH support center)
- You received an initial inspection through MSFH within the 24 months before your grant application.
- The home has an insured value of $700,000 or less.
- The home was built before January 1, 2008, as shown on the county property appraiser's website.
- You provide the name and license number of the contractor who will do the work.
- You make the home available for a final inspection after the work is complete.
- Projects completed before the grant application is approved are denied.

Income tiers and the match
When the program reopened on August 4, 2025 with $352 million for the 2025-2026 cycle, it limited grants to homesteaded owners in two income groups, as reported by WUSF: low-income households (at or below 80% of county median income) could receive up to $10,000 with no match, and moderate-income households (below 120% of county median) received a matching grant of $2 for every $1 they put in, so a $5,000 contribution unlocks the full $10,000. Households above the moderate-income limit were not eligible for grants in that cycle. Income rules can change each cycle, so check the current terms on mysafeflhome.com before you plan around them.
Funding status in 2026
MSFH depends on money appropriated by the Florida Legislature, and it has opened, filled and paused several times since 2022. We are not able to confirm a fixed 2026 application window, so we do not publish one. The program site and its applicant portal are the only reliable place to see whether inspections and grants are currently being accepted.
Is There a Federal Tax Credit for Impact Windows in 2026?
No. The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (Section 25C), which paid 30% of qualifying window costs up to $600 a year, covers improvements made through December 31, 2025, according to the IRS credit page. Windows installed and placed in service in 2025 may still be claimed on your 2025 return with Form 5695. Windows installed in 2026 do not qualify. Talk to a tax professional about your own return.
Are Window Installations Taxed in Florida?
Florida's sales tax exemption for impact-resistant windows, doors and garage doors ran from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2024, per the Florida Department of Revenue home hardening page, and it has ended. On a typical installed project, sales tax applies to the materials and is usually built into the contractor's price rather than added as a separate line for labor. Ask any contractor to show how tax is handled in the quote, and check floridarevenue.com for any newer home hardening program before you buy.
Does FPL Offer a Window Replacement Rebate?
Not that we could find. When we reviewed FPL's savings page in October 2026, its residential rebates covered items such as a new A/C unit and ceiling insulation, plus the On Call program, but no window rebate. Florida Power & Light serves most of Brevard County. If you are served by a different utility, check that utility's programs directly.
Insurance Discounts: The Incentive That Keeps Paying
Florida law requires insurers to offer premium discounts or credits for fixtures and construction techniques that reduce windstorm loss, including opening protection (section 627.0629, Florida Statutes). The discount appears only after your insurer receives a current wind mitigation inspection form showing the upgrade, so ask for an updated report once the final inspection passes. The amount varies by insurer, policy and home, and we do not quote a percentage because it differs from policy to policy. Ask your agent for a before and after quote using the inspection report.
Step-by-Step: The Order That Protects Your Grant
- Apply for the free MSFH inspection at mysafeflhome.com. The report is useful for insurance even if you never take a grant.
- Get quotes that match the report. Use a licensed contractor and impact products with Florida product approval or Miami-Dade NOA for your openings.
- Apply for the grant and wait for written approval. Do not sign a binding start date or begin work before approval, because work completed before approval is denied.
- Permit, install, and pass the final building inspection. Impact window and door replacement requires a building permit in Brevard County and its cities. Our Brevard County permit guide explains the process.
- Complete the MSFH final inspection and send the updated wind mitigation form to your insurer.
How ELSO Helps (Our Perspective)
As a Brevard County remodeling contractor, our role is practical: we quote to the openings listed in your MSFH inspection report, provide our license number and product approval documents for your grant file, pull the permit, and schedule inspections so the paperwork lines up with the program's final inspection. We do not process grants, and we never tell homeowners a grant is guaranteed. See our impact windows and doors service page for scope, or request a free estimate and we will price your project with and without the grant scenario.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a 2026 Florida window replacement program?
There is no official program by that exact name. The state program that helps pay for impact windows is My Safe Florida Home, which offers a free wind mitigation inspection and, when funded, grants of up to $10,000 for eligible homes built before 2008 with an insured value of $700,000 or less. Check mysafeflhome.com for whether applications are currently open.
Is there a Florida rebate or tax credit for hurricane impact windows in 2026?
The main option is the My Safe Florida Home grant. The federal 25C credit for energy efficient windows covers improvements made through December 31, 2025 only, and Florida's impact window sales tax exemption ended June 30, 2024. Ongoing insurance premium discounts for opening protection are still required to be offered under Florida law.
Are window installations taxed in Florida?
Yes, in most cases. The temporary sales tax exemption for impact-resistant windows, doors and garage doors ran from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2024 and has ended. On an installed project, tax on materials is usually included in the contractor's price. Ask your contractor to explain how tax is handled in the quote.
Does FPL have a window replacement rebate?
We did not find one. As of October 2026, FPL's savings page lists residential rebates such as a new A/C unit and ceiling insulation, plus the On Call program, but no window rebate. Programs change, so check fpl.com before you plan around any utility incentive.
