A deck remodel is a good time to check that an existing gate, door alarm or screen enclosure still does its job.

What should be checked under an old pool deck before new pavers go down?

Look at what the new surface will sit on. Cracked or settled concrete, failed expansion joints, and the coping and bond beam edge all need a decision before pavers or porcelain go down, because covering a moving base just moves the cracks up. Drainage has to slope away from the pool and the house, and if a screen cage is anchored to the deck, plan how its footings and connections will be protected or rebuilt during the work.
