Pool decks are one of Brevard's most-replaced exterior features. 1980s-90s concrete pool decks are now cracking, spalling, fading, or showing the dated stamped patterns that scream "decades-old." Replacing with modern pavers, travertine, or porcelain instantly modernizes the pool area and improves daily comfort (newer materials stay cooler underfoot).
Material Options for Pool Decks
Concrete pavers: $9-13/sqft installed. Most affordable, great durability, hundreds of color options. Tumbled pavers: $12-16/sqft. Aged-look aesthetic. Travertine: $13-20/sqft. Stays cooler than concrete, natural-stone look, requires sealing. Porcelain pavers: $16-25/sqft. Modern look, no sealing needed, slip-resistant textures available.
Pool Deck Size and Layout
Standard Brevard pool decks are 8-12 ft wide around the pool perimeter. Expanded decks (12-18 ft on one or two sides for dining/lounge zones) are increasingly common. Some clients combine pool deck with outdoor kitchen, fire pit, or covered shade area.
Drainage and Pool Chemistry
Pool deck drainage must slope AWAY from the pool to prevent chlorinated water re-entering the pool. Florida's flat lots make this challenging - we sometimes add French drains or strip drains to manage water properly. Saltwater pool decks also need salt-resistant materials and sealants.
Pool Cage Coordination
If you're also doing the pool cage (screen enclosure), pool deck and cage should be done together. The cage attaches to the deck and waterproofing the connection is critical. Combined cage + deck projects: $20,000-50,000 typical.
