Code-compliant electrical work for renovations, panel upgrades, and modern home wiring

Electrical Services

Panel upgrades, full rewires, recessed lighting, EV chargers, and remodel-integrated electrical - performed by electricians on every ELSO Contracting renovation.

What We Handle

From Outlet Adds to Full Rewires

ELSO Contracting handles electrical scope through our master electricians on every renovation we deliver. Most electrical work happens as part of bathroom, kitchen, and whole-home remodels - adding GFCI outlets, relocating switches, installing recessed and pendant lighting, wiring vanities and undercabinet lighting, and powering new appliances.

We also handle larger standalone electrical projects: 100-amp to 200-amp panel upgrades, full home rewires (especially in older Florida homes with knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring), EV charger installation, smart home wiring, and dedicated circuits for tankless water heaters, mini-splits, and outdoor kitchens.

Florida Code

Florida Building Code and Brevard County Compliance

Florida adopts the National Electrical Code with state-specific amendments. Coastal Florida zones have stricter requirements around weather-rated boxes, GFCI placement, surge protection, and grounding due to lightning frequency. Brevard County is one of the highest lightning-strike-density counties in the United States, which makes whole-house surge protection a strongly recommended upgrade on any panel job.

The 2026 Florida Building Code requires whole-house surge protection on all new and replaced panels. We include this on every panel upgrade we install. We also install GFCI breakers (vs receptacles) on outdoor circuits, which provides better lightning resilience and faster code compliance.

All our electrical work is permitted with Brevard County Building Services and inspected at rough and final stages. We work with the local power utility (FPL) on any service-side coordination needed for panel upgrades.

Common Upgrades

High-Value Electrical Upgrades for Florida Homes

The single highest-ROI electrical upgrade for most Brevard County homes is a 200-amp panel upgrade with whole-house surge protection. Older homes (pre-1990) often have 100-amp service that struggles with modern loads (multiple ACs, induction cooktops, EV chargers, tankless water heaters, hot tubs). The upgrade typically runs $2,500-$4,500 and unlocks every other modern amenity you might want to add.

The second highest-impact upgrade is recessed LED lighting throughout main living spaces. LED pots with proper spacing and dimmer-compatible fixtures completely transform interior aesthetics, cut electrical usage by 70%+ vs incandescent, and last 25,000+ hours. A typical living room or kitchen lighting plan runs $1,200-$3,500 depending on can count and switching complexity.

For homes with older 60s-80s aluminum branch wiring, full or partial rewire is sometimes worth the investment - both for fire safety (aluminum-to-copper junctions are a known failure point) and for insurance (many carriers now surcharge homes with aluminum wiring). Cost ranges $8,000-$15,000 for partial rewire to $15,000-$30,000 for full whole-home rewire.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Does ELSO Contracting do standalone electrical work?

Yes. While most of our electrical work happens during remodels, we also handle dedicated panel upgrades, EV charger installation, full rewires, and major lighting projects as standalone jobs. For small repairs (single outlet, one ceiling fan), a service-only electrician is usually a better fit.

How much does a 200-amp panel upgrade cost in Brevard County?

A 200-amp panel upgrade in Brevard County typically runs $2,500 to $4,500 including the new panel, breakers, whole-house surge protection (now required by 2026 FL code), permit, and inspection. Service entrance complications, FPL meter relocation, or grounding upgrades can add $500 to $1,500.

Do I need a permit for electrical work in Brevard County?

Yes, almost all electrical work beyond simple fixture replacement requires a Brevard County electrical permit. This includes adding circuits, installing recessed lights, panel upgrades, EV chargers, and rewires. We handle permitting on contracted projects, or you can self-permit per our standard permit policy.

Can you install an EV charger in my garage?

Yes, EV charger installation is a frequent request. Most installs require a dedicated 50-amp 240v circuit run from your panel to the charger location. Installation typically runs $1,200 to $2,500 depending on panel distance, conduit run, and whether your panel has capacity. If your panel is full or under 200 amp, you may need a panel upgrade first.

Should I replace aluminum wiring in my Florida home?

If your home has aluminum branch wiring (common in Florida homes built 1965-1975), it depends on condition and your priorities. Aluminum-to-copper terminations at outlets and switches are known fire risks if not properly upgraded. The complete fix is rewiring with copper, but many homes are made safe with proper COPALUM crimps or AlumiConn connectors at every junction. We assess your situation and recommend the right path.

What is whole-house surge protection and do I need it?

Whole-house surge protection is a device installed at your main panel that protects all circuits from voltage spikes - typically caused by lightning strikes (very common in Brevard County) or grid switching. The 2026 Florida Building Code now requires it on new and replaced panels. Cost is $300-$600 installed and protects every device in your home. Highly recommended.
